End of the Year Message

05/20/2020

Greetings,

As we near the end of the school year, I want to take time to update students, parents, and guardians on the current status of our schools. In addition, I want to give you information on what our school district will be doing from now until August to prepare for the 2020-21 school year and the potential challenges COVID-19 might bring with it.

Currently, Governor JB Pritzker has released a  Five Phase Plan to reopen Illinois.  At this time, the governor has the state in Phase 2 of the Restore Illinois Plan. In Phase 4 of this plan, schools are allowed to open with specific guidelines set forth by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH). We will continue to provide updates, throughout the summer, with any changes that may occur due to the governor’s Restore Illinois Plan or further guidance from the IDPH.

The speed with which COVID-19 changed our daily lives was something none of us could have predicted or imagined just a few months ago. Yet, due to this pandemic we were forced to close our schools on March 13th and move to an e-learning platform. With little time to prepare, our teachers, administrators, and staff worked diligently to ensure students could continue their education while at home. In order for us to improve the online learning experience for students and parents, a survey will be emailed to all families early next week. We are seeking feedback to assist us in developing how we can create a more standardized and engaging online learning experience for students. In addition, we will be asking for feedback regarding the social/emotional support our students may need as we move forward.

In closing, I want to thank all of the parents and guardians of our students for your dedication, time, and patience in partnering with us to see your child’s learning continued during this current school closure. In a time of uncertainty, it is even more important we continue to strengthen that partnership and work collectively to reassure and support our children through this process. This pandemic will eventually end, and our schools will once again be full of students learning, growing, and socializing. I believe we will look back and see that we have emerged from this storm stronger, more caring, and ready to lead once again as a school and community. I wish everyone the best of health, and please do not hesitate to contact the district office or your child’s school with specific questions.

Sincerely,

Dr. Tom Lind, Superintendent
